Choosing Your Child’s Dentist is Like Choosing Their Pediatrician

An environment that's anxiety-free makes it possible to instill good habits at an early age, leading to a lifetime of good oral health. From a young age, children's teeth can be susceptible to cavities. Consider these factors: Children aren't able to brush well by themselves. Because of this, it is important for parents to be involved in their child’s daily dental care. This ensures both thorough cleaning and the development of proper dental habits. Little kids tend to eat frequently during the day (grazing). This results in a prolonged exposure to acid (every time you eat you make acid), which may cause more cavities.

Exposure to food and juice acid is greater when a tooth is improperly cleaned. This acid often speeds up the development of cavities. The good news is that identifying poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with applying a fluoride varnish to the mineralizing teeth, can significantly reduce the chance of your child developing a cavity.

Preventing Child Tooth Decay – the Easy Way!

We recognize that children often don’t do an excellent job of brushing their teeth. Even adults have difficulties with proper brushing and flossing techniques. The deep grooves located in the back teeth may be missed, even with meticulous brushing. This causes the development of bacteria, acids, and plaque, which will lead to decay. And once a tooth decays, it is damaged forever and will require a filling or crown.

What if there was a way to better protect your child’s teeth? Fortunately, there is! It’s the application of dental sealants. The procedure starts with cleaning and sterilizing the tooth or teeth. Then, a thin white or clear plastic coating is applied and a curing light causes the plastic sealant to bond into place. No shots! No drills! No removal of any tooth structure! The entire process takes only minutes and is completely harmless. However, we only use sealants when we can see that they will be helpful in preventing cavities.

Children and adolescents alike can benefit from the preventive practice of applying dental sealants to protect their natural teeth!
